I lived in Amsterdam for a year in the late eighties. Loved it there. Well. Unless you count the cold winters and the blistering wind rolling off the North Sea. My first winter home in NY after living there, I was so accustomed to living in a colder climate that I didn't need a winter coat for the whole season. I loved walking along the market streets and buying pickeled herring to eat with mittened hands, quickly, before it froze. And. The Van Gogh Museum has an astounding collection of his work.
